The Englishman and the Butterfly Book Trailer #1 (Vimeo)

Created over three days at home using iMovie, this book trailer is the first to give you a visual sense of the novel. As you can imagine, this isn’t the easiest job of work to undertake. But, with help from a wonderful selection of stock photos at stock.xchng and the music of a certain temperamental genius, I think I’ve found a tone that works.

One thing, however, I think the clip lacks, in terms of accurate literary presentation, is humor. The novel is funnier than this piece feels. It’s pretty difficult to capture that without losing a necessary edge, and I wanted the edge…

Contest alert!: the first person who can correctly identify the composer, piece, and performer will win a FREE copy of the novel! Simply write to me via “Leave a Reply” below.

And, as you can see below, a winner has emerged…

  1. Yukio Mishima says:

Beethoven, piano sonata 13(2nd movement), and I’m going to guess my boy Glenn Gould considering he was your screensaver all year.

  2. admin says:

Ray… erm, Yukio, you’re exactly right: It’s the Allegro molto from Beethoven’s “Sonata No 13 in E-flat major, Op. 27, No. 1″ performed by none other than that most brilliant of pianists, Glenn Gould. Very well played (pun intended). You win a free download of the novel. I can either send it to you as a .pdf file, for use with computer or iBooks app, or as a .mobi, for uploading to a Kindle (somewhat more difficult, but achievable). Email me at and let me know. Go Fighting Illini!
